Bali Day Two

The day began once again by loading up at breakfast, before taking a walk along the winding trek that is Jl. Werkudara. Helen was on the search for more paintings, though more importantly to find the two she really liked from yesterday, hope that they were still there, and then negotiate the right price for them. She also had to purchase her new handbag from Sammy's, which Mum and Louise and Angela had insisted was 'the place to go' for handbags. Along the way there were many people who insisted they had 'good morning price', though I didn't have to buy anything, as Helen was having a ball checking out everything and buying stuff for everyone.

Having moved up Jl. Legian and into Jl. Padma, Dad and I retired to the street frontage of Sarpinos Pizzeria who sold very cold Bintang, and we again sat and watched the passing parade while the girls continued their trek. Once they joined us, it was the chance for the passing parade to come buy for more sales, firstly the CD man, who journeyed through his entire collection and then twice back up the street to locate the Bee Gees CD Mum was after. But he made the sale. Then it was the passing DVD man, with 4000 DVDs to choose from, who got Helen and Mum back in, while Dad and I concentrated on the beer at hand.

Helen and her purchases, and realising I have to give her more money.

From here we moved down to the beach, where the Legian Beach Festival was taking place, with markets along the beachfront also selling their wares. Helen had a ball, buying a number of shirts and dresses and other items, leaving some of the street sellers with lucky first sales of the day.

After another warm day searching the shops it was back to the hotel for another swim in the pool, and then a beer and some pizza at the hotel's pizza restaurant for a light dinner. At 5.00pm we Skyped the kids at home, which helped to allay any fears we had of the kids not having a good time, though they spent most of the conversation looking at themselves on the screen and pulling faces. i had also been sending short emails home with photos, so it was good to see them doing well. i think Helen finally relaxed knowing they were fine.

Once this was sorted we walked down to the Y Bar, where we were going to settle in and watch the footy, but on arriving we found it bursting at the seams and with little chance of getting a seat or a view or a drink. Instead we went back a couple of shops to another restaurant that was showing the AFL, but with only one other couple in. So we ordered some dinner (or Mum just had a banana split) and a couple of beers and watched the game until half-time. We then headed back to our rooms for a gin & tonic or a Jim Beam & Coke, and watched the rest of that first AFL semi final, with Hawthorn kicking the crap out of Sydney by 50 points.
